Yesterday, Nunn Called On Each Of Her Opponents To Join Her In Pledging To Refuse Third Party TV Ads, Outside Group Spending

Nunn: "I'm disappointed to learn Congressman Kingston and David Perdue won't join with me and countless Georgians in sending a message to Washington that we need to fix our broken system."

Today, Michelle Nunn, former CEO of the Points of Light Foundation and candidate for U.S. Senate, said she was disappointed in Congressman Jack Kingston and David Perdue after news broke that both candidates had refused to join with her in limiting outside spending and third party ads in the Georgia U.S. Senate race. Yesterday, Nunn sent both of her opponents a letter urging them to join with her in pledging to refuse outside spending and third party ads in the U.S. Senate race.

"The millions of dollars special interests and very wealthy individuals spend on TV ads to influence elections -- often without Georgians knowing who is paying for them -- is a prime example of what's wrong with Washington. I'm disappointed to learn Congressman Kingston and David Perdue won't join with me and countless Georgians in sending a message to Washington that we need to fix our broken system," Nunn said.

Also today, Nunn sent an email to supporters asking them to become co-signers of her letter to Kingston and Perdue challenging them to reject third party ads in the Senate race.

Nunn noted how third-party groups -- often funded by special interests and very wealthy individuals who are never forced to disclose their identities -- are able to spend millions of dollars in television ads in order to influence the election. In contrast, donors to candidate's committees must be reported and adhere to strict fundraising limits.

Third-party ads also don't have to be approved by the candidates themselves and no one is forced to stand by their claims.
